Tell us something about yourself?
My name is Aevin Dugas,I’m 37, from Napoleonville La and I Love being a Natural Sista!
How long have you been natural?
I’ve been natural for 13 years
So, how and why did you decide to be natural?
I decided I didn’t want chemically straightened hair.I tried for years on my own to go natural, but would always go back to the creamy crack! Lol! Then my friend’s sister had gone natural and told me what to do and it actually wasn’t that hard!
What reactions did you get from your friends and family?
They all loved it but swore that they could NEVER go natural themselves……….and now they’re all natural too!!
What was your hair like before you became natural? i.e. texture, length, health
I actually kept it cut in either a bob or a shag and it was blonde. I did my hair back then too! It was healthy and about shoulder length.
What mistakes have you made and learned since you became natural?
I think the biggest is to not expect that my hair is going to come out looking exactly like someone elses. I used to look at other people’s hair and think if I did my hair just like they did I’ll get the same outcome. But that’s not always the case. I’ve learned that’s okay, just find what works for me!!
What is your hair regimen and what are the staple hair products you can’t go without?
My regimen is simple. I shampoo, condition with a couple of different conditioners that are mixed together. It’s never the same mixture because I just grab and squirt. But they are usually from Pantene, Garnier Fruictis, Tresseme & Aussie. But the main thing I cannot go without is my Pantene Nature Fusion Moisture Balance conditioner. For me, it works wonders!! I also apply Argan oil along with my conditioners and just slap it all into a bun. I don’t rinse it out until I style it.
What do you love the most about your hair?
The thing I like the most is the versatility!!! I can do almost any style I want!
How did you feel when you found out you were a Guinness World Record Holder?
I felt excited and I was definitely in shock! I mean Guinness…….that’s crazy!!
What tips would you like to share with those who are thinking about going back to their natural hair?
The tips I’d give is to be patient, pay attention to your hair. See what it likes and what it doesn’t. Don’t get discouraged if it seems as if it’s not growing bc sometimes you go thru that and just be proud of YOUR hair!! Love your wave, curl, coil, kink etc!!!!
